THE SPT&P
DIFFERENCE
If you’re reading this, you’re interested in working with us, but not quite sure about us being “out-of-network” or “direct pay”
Whether You Decide to Work With Us or Not, Let Us Explain Just A Few Things To Help You Make A Confident Decision
Your may have said or thought these types of things:
- “I would prefer to use my insurance benefits for PT.”
- “That seems like a lot of money.”
It’s totally normal for you to feel this way. The current healthcare landscape for active-adults and athletes is changing drastically. As insurance companies continue to reduce payment to PTs the quality of care that patients are receiving is being reduced. Co-pays are also at all-time highs and continue to increase. Below is some insight into how working with an out-of-network practice like Scottsdale Physical Therapy & Performance can actually save you not only money, but time as well and ultimately lead to better results than a traditional, in-network practice.

Why is Scottsdale Physical Therapy & Performance not in-network with insurance? And did you say that you can actually save money?
In many ways, your care is dictated by or at least heavily influenced by insurance at “in-network” clinics. We refuse to allow that to be the case at Scottsdale Physical Therapy & Performance.
We are an out-of-network practice because the business model necessary for an in-network practice to survive rarely ever allows for the high-level care we insist on giving our patients.
What does that even mean?…
Due to progressively worsening reimbursement rates and pressure from insurance companies, the therapists at in-network clinics have to see at least 2 patients per hour (usually many more) and they often use technicians and assistances to provide much of the actual patient care. The care often includes modalities like heat packs and ultrasound, and the majority of a patient’s time at the clinic is spent doing exercises they could do on their own time. Furthermore, these types of clinics tend to require patients to attend 2-3 appointments per week.
We do not believe that modalities are nearly effective as our hands-on treatment, and we also do not agree with having patients pay to perform exercises in the clinic that they could easily perform at home or at a gym. All of our patients receive one-on-one care and hands-on treatment from a Doctor of Physical Therapy in every session. With this one hour long-session, one-on-one treatment approach, the plan of care for the vast majority of our patients only involves one appointment per week. This saves you time from the babysitter, taking time off work and leave you with more time to do the activities you love.
When you consider the time savings of fewer trips to the clinic and the value of resolving your pain so much faster than average, the out-of-pocket expense at Scottsdale Physical Therapy & Performance is a huge bargain.
"I Want to Call My Insurance"
When people hear that we’re “out-of-network” they usually want to call their insurance to see what benefits they have… as they should! If you are going to call your insurance, please get the FULL PICTURE. People usually just ask… “Do I have any out-of-network benefits?” And if the answer is “no”, or “only after $X,XXX deductible is met”, they then immediately think, “well I guess I’ll stay in-network”… but this person still have no clue how much the “in network route” will cost them, or what the value comparison is. So, please take advantage of the two checklists below to make sure you have ALL THE INFORMATION!
What to ask your insurance agent:
- Do I have an in-network deductible? If so, how much will I have to pay out-of-pocket before you will help cover my in-network PT costs?
- What is my in-network copay?
- What is the easiest way to submit a self-claim?
"I Want to Find a Place That Takes my Insurance"
This can be a totally sensible thing to think about and want to do. We just want to make sure you fully understand the difference in cost and quality of care you’ll receive. Sometimes going in-network is just as expensive and more, and for a lesser experience and results.
We highly encourage you to use the checklist below when calling around to get the facts straight about your PT options!
